Born in Seoul, Korea, John Cho is currently Professor in the Computer Science Department, specializing in Web search engines, information retrieval systems, and data mining. His primary research goal is to help users discover, organize, and retrieve information in an intuitive and efficient way. He is particularly interested in figuring out how to leverage online user activities, such as their tweets, blogs and online reviews, to help search engines identify useful and relevant information.

While he is not at work, he enjoys going to beaches and exploring ethnic communities in LA. In Rieber Terrace he lives with his grade-school daughter, Hana, and his wife, Christine, who is a UCLA alum and is a career counselor. John can often be found on campus taking a walk with his family, sometimes in a brutal racing competition with his daughter.
