Lights Camera Film Festival
About the Festival
A celebration of UCLA student achievement in film, with finalists in each category being presented on the big screen in a red carpet style premiere event taking place May 20, 2023, 7-10 pm at the Northwest Campus Auditorium. Finalists in every category will be shown on the big screen to an audience of fellow students and filmmakers, with awards for each category being presented after the show.

How to Get Started
- Attend one of our workshops as listed below, and start brainstorming ideas.
- Bring your vision to life and make your movie! Learning Centers offers accessible camera and audio equipment to all UCLA students, as well as a state of the art studio designed for photo and video shoots, as well as music recording.
- Submit your project via the form linked here, for a chance to premiere it on the big screen! Submissions due May 5, 2023.

Workshops
A series of interactive workshops for students to gain the necessary knowledge for bringing their big screen visions to life, taught by experienced UCLA students from the many film clubs on campus. Directors who wish to submit their work to our festival must attend at least one of these workshops. Click on one of the boxes below to sign up!

Learn the basics of short film story structure, creating compelling characters, and film script formatting. Happening on April 10, 6-7pm at the De Neve Learning Centers Labs.

Learn how to point and shoot with a video camera, how to compose visually interesting shots, and how to properly light subjects for the screen. Happening on April 17, 6-7pm at the De Neve Learning Centers Studio.

Learn the importance of editing via Adobe Premiere Pro, including how to pace a scene, good editing etiquette, as well as basic sound design and color grading. Happening on April 24th, 6-7 pm at the De Neve Learning Centers Labs.

Drama
Narrative short films of a more serious nature, with conflict, pathos, and intensity. 10 minutes and under.

Comedy
Lighthearted, fun shorts that focus on delivering laughs above all else. 10 minutes and under.

Music Video
Filmed showcases of musical talent, including singing, dancing and performance. 7 minutes and under.

Animation
Animated shorts with beautiful art and stories to match. 5 minutes and under.

Documentary
Short, incisive video investigations into the important issues of today. 10 minutes and under.

Photography
Showcasing the ability of students capturing that perfect moment on camera.
RULES
- All submissions must be NO LONGER than the specified length INCLUDING CREDITS for its respective category (10 minutes for drama, comedy and documentary; 7 minutes for music videos; 5 minutes for animation). Even one frame over and the submission will be disqualified.
- All submissions must have had their production dates AFTER SEPTEMBER 2021.
- All submissions must have been directed and produced by current UCLA students (Directors and Producers must provide their UID numbers through our submission form.)
- All submissions must be submitted through the official LCFF submission form, as attachments for photography and as YouTube links for video works.
- All submissions must be free from copyrighted music or audio samples.
- DIRECTORS OF ALL SUBMISSIONS MUST HAVE DONE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING TO BE CONSIDERED FOR FINALIST STATUS:
- Used Learning Centers equipment on the film’s production (Camera kits, podcast kits). To rent one of these kits, sign up for one of our Creative Elements workshops to get certified.
