Training & Assessment Assistant
Training & Assessment Assistants play an integral role in supporting the development, promotion, analysis, and implementation of Residential Life initiatives by coordinating administrative processes and contributing to both training and research efforts. Assistants help organize and implement training for over 500 student leaders, contributing as members of the Training Committee to shape the direction, planning, and delivery of staff training programs. Additionally, they support surveys, research projects, and organizational development objectives through data collection, analysis, and reporting across areas such as student and resident surveys, demographic and enrollment data, conduct data, and assessments of training and programs.
These assistants report to the Training Coordinator(s) and play a key role in enhancing both data-informed decision-making and comprehensive staff development.
Currently accepting applications for a term that will start Summer 2026 and continue through Spring 2027. Applicants must be available and present for two weeks of on campus training that begins Monday, August 31, 2026. Applications due Thursday, June 25th, 10:00am.
What you’ll do
Key duties of the position include:
- Communicate with and assist professional staff with administrative duties related to training initiatives.
- Maintaining information databases including the master schedule of student trainings, staff rosters, etc.
- Assist with the planning, organization, and implementation of training sessions and related programs/events, including but not limited to the two-week summer student staff training and quarterly in-service trainings.
- Recruiting and leading a summer student team to develop the training experience.
- Supporting training evaluation through data collection, analysis, and reporting.
- Advising the Training Committee by offering student perspectives and new ideas.
- Design and compose the monthly student staff newsletter and assist with the distribution of all-staff communications related to training.
- Visualize data using Qualtrics, Tableau, Canva and other software to create graphics and dashboards.
- Compile research and assessment reports that align with mission and goals.
- Additional tasks as assigned.

- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Comfort using basic software, cloud programs, and digital tools including MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Suite (Drive, Docs, Sheets, Forms, Slides, Sites), Canva, etc.
- Interest in using quantitative data to tell a story.
- Coursework or experience in research methods, data collection, data analysis, or statistics and be eager to grow these skills.
- Knowledge or familiarity of coding tools like R, SPSS, or Python or data visualization tools like Tableau would be a plus.
- Experience participating in Residential Life Student Staff Training (summer and/or in-services).
- Knowledge and understanding of confidentiality and the ethical conduct of research.
- Interest in automating assessment and evaluation processes to increase department efficiency.
In order to support the academic success of our student staff, Residential Life conducts Grade Point Average and Enrollment Checks for all student employee positions. We may conduct these checks at the time of application and any time thereafter once the student has accepted a job offer.
For this position, candidates must have a 2.3 minimum cumulative GPA at the time of application, hire, and/or rehire (beginning of Fall Quarter of each academic year). First year students may use their high school or community college GPA. Successful candidates must maintain full-time student status (12 units per quarter) during time of employment.
Compensation
$18.20/hr for about 9 hours per week and up to 19.5 hours per week in Summer.
