Assistant Resident Director

UCLA Assistant Resident Directors (ARD) are live-in, full-time professional staff. Each of our residential facilities is supported by an ARD who is responsible for the general programmatic vision of a community of 500-1000+ students.

ARDs will gain the following skill sets and experiences from their role:

  • Train, co-supervise and co-advise student positions, such as resident assistants, hall government, student interns, and office assistants.
  • Serve on a leadership team to build community, manage team dynamics, and coordinate meetings for the student staff team.
  • Plan programs and events for residents.
  • Assist with recruitment and selection processes for student and professional staff positions.
  • Engage in networking opportunities with full-time seasoned Residential Life staff, faculty, and campus partners.
  • Learn from opportunities for professional development including committee work, and low-level student conduct management.

Qualifications

Competitive candidates will bring to UCLA a passion for working with students, a strong commitment to student development, and excitement for fostering community. Requirements include:

  • A bachelor's degree is required.
  • Experience with program development and event & activity planning.
  • A commitment and willingness to engage in complex diversity issues.
  • Experience in coaching, mentoring, and/or supervising student staff.
  • Ability to manage a rigorous administrative workload.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Prior experience in community development, student advising, and counseling is preferred.

Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background investigation.

Compensation and Benefits

Full-Time ARD

  • Non-exempt, full-time, 40 hours/week.
  • For self and/or family, furnished single room (pet-friendly) with utilities and internet.
  • Meal plan provided when UCLA dining is in service.
  • Departmental-issued cell phone.
  • Parking allotment, subject to availability, paid for by the employee.
